STUDENT OATH / GOALS

Student Oath - Kwan wan sun suh

The student oath is recited at the beginning of class and an important part of the discipline of Tae Kwon Do.

1. Hana – I shall observe the Tenants of Tae Kwon Do

  • Courtesy

School Goals

To create a strong school spirit and atmosphere where students work together, help each other, respect, encourage, and support each other no matter what the age, sex, race, or economic background.

To help each student eliminate fear, overcome weakness and develop positive mental attitudes so that 100% of their mental and physical potential can be realized.

This molding of character and attitude will help a person not only in Tae Kwon Do, but in any phase of life as well.

  • Green – Signifies the plant growth as the Tae Kwon Do skills begin to develop.
  • Blue – Signifies the heaven towards which the plant matures into a towering tree as training in Tae Kwon Do progresses.
  • Red – Signifies danger, cautioning the student to exercise control and warning the opponent to stay away.
  • Black – Opposite of white, therefore, signifying the maturity and proficiency in Tae Kwon Do.

What to expect:

To advance in belt rank, the student must pass a proficiency test. The student will be graded on Formal and Free Sparring Patterns, Kicking Drills, Directional Patterns, Terminology and appearance. These tests are conducted approximately every other month. The student must pass the Pre-Test (Given during class the day before the Belt Test), in order to be allowed to Belt Test. The cost for each Belt Test is $50 ($25 for Lil Ninjas). The student’s TKD or Sports Camp account must be paid up to date before being allowed to test. After earning the rank of Orange Belt, students will be starting Sparring, and will require Sparring Equipment. The cost for this equipment is approximately $193.50 for Males, and $180 for Females. There is a Sparring Class on Friday night from 6:30 – 7:30 for all Orange Belts and above. There is no extra charge for this class.

We have an instructional DVD available for purchase. Each DVD has instructions and demonstrations for a particular belt. The cost of the DVD’s is $25.

Tournaments:

The students at AKA compete in 3-4 local tournaments a year. These tournaments are highly encouraged, and in order to be advanced to Black Belt, the student must have competed in at least 6 competitions. The cost for these tournaments is usually $50 - $75. Advance notice of these events will be posted and announced in class.

National Tournament:

Every summer, the Amateur Athletic Association (AAU) puts on the AAU Nationals Tournament. In the past, those AKA students who are eligible, are motivated, and committed to being a part of our Nationals Team have raised funds and were able to compete. We start to get a team together sometime during January or February of each year and make the commitment to attend or not. It is an honor to be able to go to this tournament, but it takes hard work, dedication and support of the student by the family. The cost for these trips can be up to $1500 per student, depending on travel and lodging for up to 6 days. The Team’s various fundraising activities normally raise a good portion of the money needed. Notices will be posted concerning the Nationals tournament and Team formation.
